Talk by Robin Tatler, visiting from somewhere unpronounceable in Scotland, who gave a fascinating talk about ‘The Homeless World Cup’ - an event held each year since 2003 at differing international venues.
The idea is to get together teams, from various nations, of homeless people (male and female teams) who go through a selection process before being chosen to represent their nation in the finals.
The whole events are sponsored and the annual tournament lasts about 1 week.
Rotary has recently got involved and now contributes towards “Football Boxes” which cost £500 and contain enough kit etc to enable 10 individuals to become ‘trainers’ who can then introduce 20 or so homeless persons to the project.
Benefits in self esteem, worth, motivation etc were very evident.

7th September 2010
Boules: A scratch team of 6 (Ivor, Richard, Graham H, Dane, Willie, Gordon), met Lymington at the boules terrain at Hordle. Initially a walkover by Highcliffe was on the cards as only one Lymington player arrived. However another 4 Lymingtonians eventually turned up and after some juggling of the rules for the evening, Highcliffe were triumphant (doubles: 1 game each, triples: Highcliffe win). Players afterwards retired to the Three Bells for some well-deserved celebratory refreshment.
