REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
2008-2009
The Rotary Club of Highcliffe on Sea carried on various projects throughout the year.
Broadly these consisted of raising funds to enable charitable objects to be supported and the provision of services using the talents of members. In addition a Piano Festival was organized. Any shortfall was covered by sponsorship and earmarked funds held by the Club. Full reports were provided on a monthly basis to the members of the club.
In the year in question, it was the President’s particular aim to support Rotary International’s End Polio Now project to maximize the donations of the Gates Foundation. He hosted a Garden Party and a Jazz Evening was also held with the proceeds being earmarked for the same project.
The other major theme was to support projects relating to Children and Young People. Once again this included taking a group of children with learning difficulties to the Kids Out day at Poultons Park. Two pupils from Highcliffe School were sponsored to attend the Rotary Young Leaders Weekend, and in co-operation with that school the Rotary Young Chef’s Competition was supported with a high standard of cooking evident from all participants. Shoe boxes were collected for countries in Eastern Europe and Africa with enthusiastic help from Highcliffe Primary School. New Kit was purchased for a local Youth Football team, Highcliffe Hawks, and a Prize for the Highcliffe Junior Choir was sponsored.
Other fund raising events included the Community Bonfire event, badly affected by the weather; a Christmas Concert by the Salvation Army and participation in the Community Christmas Carnival. The usual Annual Village Fete is arranged primarily as a community event to enable other organisations to raise money for their own projects or charities but in addition raised funds for Club projects.
Various sums raised are allocated directly to Rotary’s own international Charity the Rotary Foundation and sums are added from donations by members themselves. A total of £2100 was paid over in the year under review.
Payments were made in the year under review total £7,127, but £7,737 was carried forward which included payments due to be made from the monies raised during the year. This also included reserves for particular purposes including an emergency reserve of £800 to enable the Club to react speedily to an emergency situation, monies collected for Rotary Foundation of £340 and a Youth Activities Reserve of £960.
The Trustees Tony Parkinson, Bill Baker, David Cundy and Terry Earle served throughout the year.
